Ensembles that require an audition

To ensure that students are ready to meet the next level of development the following ensembles have audition requirements. Information on how to auditions is below.

CBU Honor Symphonic Band

Auditions Requirements: student grades 9-12, must audition.

Audition Requirements:

  • Prepared piece(s): solo, étude, or excerpt of ensemble music demonstrating both lyrical and technical abilities

  • Major scales (Concert Bb, Eb, F, and C major scales)

  • Sight reading

Audition will last about 10 minutes.

Honor String Orchestra

Auditions Requirements: student grades 7-12, must audition.

While the ensemble has been opened for students 7th grade to 12th grade, scholarship funds are only offered to students in grades 9-12 grade.

Audition Guidelines:

2-3 Octave scale, free piece of students choice (any style), and site reading assessment. Audition will last about 10 minutes.

Encore Honor Choir

Auditions Requirements: students must audition.

Audition Guidelines: One-two songs of students choice (any style) with sheet music for accompanist, student will also perform Amazing Grace acapella. Audition will last about 10 minutes.​

Intermediate Ensembles

Audition Guidelines:​

  • Sight reading assessment

  • Prepared piece of music demonstrating both lyrical and technical abilities

Intermediate Concert Band:

  • Concert Bb scale

  • Prepared piece of music demonstrating both lyrical and technical abilities

Intermediate String Orchestra: 

Audition Guidelines:

  • 2 Octave scale

  • Perform a piece of music, students choice, any style

  • Site reading assessment

IEMA Choirs Vocal Assessment:

To ensure students are able to meet the vocal demands of a choir the vocal assessment will consist of:

  • Matching Pitch

  • Vocal Scales

  • Musicianship assessment
